Appointments with the Doctor

Appointments are available from 8am ( from June 2009 )

To maintain continuity of care it is best to consult the same doctor if possible but you are free to see any doctor from the practice. If more than one member of your family wishes to be seen, please make a separate appointment for each of them. An adult should accompany children under 16. 

Afternoon appointment times usually start at 3pm but we have one late clinic per day starting at 5pm.

Appointments with a Nurse or Assistant Practitioner or Phlebotomist

Appointments with the Practice Nurse or Assistant Practitioner or phlebotomist are available from 8.30am and can be made by ringing 0845 070 6237.

The Practice Nurses carry out a wide range of nursing procedures at the practice. They are also specially trained in conducting a wide variety of well-person screening (including the practice’s cervical smears), giving health promotional advice, monitoring  long-term medical conditions and providing contraceptive advice. They are supported by the Assistant Practitioner and phlebotomist who are trained to take blood samples, blood pressure monitoring and general health checks.

Telephoning the surgery

The clinical members of our team are available for telephone advice. If you need to speak to one of them please ask at reception when they are next available. If they are in clinic and it is not an emergency matter then they will contact you within 24 hours.

Out of Hours Emergencies  
We use the Primary Care Trust deputising service to cover our practice out of hours and at weekends. If you require attention out of hours please call Out of Hours Duty Doctor on 0161 212 4366

Health Visitors 
Health Visitors are general Nurses with further training in health care for all ages, but especially families with young children. They offer a service at home or at the Practice or Swinton Clinic. They can be contacted between 9.00am -5.00pm Monday to Friday on 0161 212 5100.

District Nurse
The District Nurse works with your Doctor and performs nursing procedures in your home for anyone not able to come to the surgery. They can be contacted at Swinton Clinic on 0161 212 5110.

The Midwife carries out antenatal checks and operates the booking-in clinic for the hospital She is available each Tuesday or Wednesday.

Home Visits

Home visits are only recommended for patients who are terminally ill or truly housebound; usually the elderly, for whom travel to premises would cause severe deterioration in their medical condition. In the time it takes to see someone at home, one of our doctors can see three or four patients in the surgery and unnecessary home visits can delay someone else getting the treatment they need.

At the surgery GPs have access to the most up to date equipment and computer records, and consequently are able to carry out a more comprehensive examination than in a patient"s home. For this reason it is in the doctor's and the patient's best interest that every effort is made to attend the surgery.

If you feel a home visit is necessary, patients are requested to telephone before 10.30am. The reception staff will ask for your address, the nature of the visit and a contact telephone number as the doctor may ring before visiting.

Home visits are discussed and allocated between all the doctors. If you are unsure whether a visit request is reasonable, please leave a message with the reception staff and a doctor will contact you.
